Zachary Mertes is a 25-year-old race car driver who grew up watching the 1960s Speed Racer series. His parents would bring home Speed Racer DVDs after date nights, and the Mach 5 lit a fire that has never gone out. To this day, he carries a diecast Mach 5 to every race track he competes at.
He began racing Soap Box Derby at age 8. After his family moved from Williamsport, Pennsylvania to Wake Forest, North Carolina, he moved into karting — and in 2020 stepped up to Legend Cars. His goal is simple and unwavering: compete in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Growing up, Zach's family experienced real financial hardship — including periods of homelessness and displacement caused by natural disasters and economic strain. Those years shaped a clear understanding of the value of money and the meaning of hard work.
The lesson stuck: nothing is given, everything must be earned. To take the next step in his career, Zach took out a loan and purchased his own race car — believing that investing in himself was investing in his future.
That same accountability is what he brings to every partner relationship: show up prepared, represent the brand well, and earn the next opportunity.
